Ubc Law School Application Requirements

Proof of registration for funding applications can be found here. You will be required to submit transcripts from all of your post-secondary studies, including exchange semesters and law school transcripts for applicants in graduate years. If you are enrolled in a post-secondary program at the time of application, you must submit an up-to-date transcript and your final academic report by the intake deadline as soon as it is available. If your institution has switched to a pass/fail or credit/D/fail system due to disruptions caused by the ongoing pandemic, this will not affect your application unless a) you received a D or F in the course or b) you are applying for the third year of the bachelor`s degree. Both situations are dealt with on a case-by-case basis. Applicants in the Indigenous category are strongly advised to contact the Associate Director of Indigenous Legal Studies at the beginning of the application process to discuss the application requirements. You can submit a paper application form if you have problems with the online application or if you were admitted to the application with a waiver of the LSAC fee. In this case, the registration fee must be paid by cheque or money order. Detailed information on reference requirements and instructions can be found on the Faculty of Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies website and on our own information guide for reviewers, which you can provide to your reviewers.

Please note that you can only upload documents after submitting your application, as long as the program deadline, which differs from the application deadline, has not expired. You will receive an email from the graduate program as soon as a decision has been made. If you receive an offer of admission, it will include a deadline to accept your offer. Your journey through one of Canada`s leading law schools begins here. A non-refundable application fee of CAD 110.00 (domestic applicants) or CAD 168.25 (international applicants) (MasterCard or Visa only) must be paid for your application to be processed. Direct transfers are reserved only for applicants from Canadian law schools. We keep all documents until we receive your request. The supporting documents will then be compared to your application. We do not require letters of recommendation for applications in the “General” category. In all other categories, two letters of recommendation are required (discretionary, Aboriginal, as well as requests for carry forward or approval letter). If you have completed a degree program (equivalent to a bachelor`s degree or higher) at an institution where English was not the primary language of instruction throughout the institution (not just in the study program), you must send us an English test: TOEFL (IBT) or IELTS (academic).

The tests must have been carried out within the last 24 months at the time of application. You must submit bachelor`s degree transcripts, legal transcripts, an LSAT score, a personal statement, a letter of no objection from your current law school, and two letters of recommendation from law professors with your application. Candidates who have commenced their JD degree at another Canadian common law school may apply in the Transfer category. Candidates who graduate from a foreign law school can apply in the Advanced Standing category. However, their references must be checked by the National Accreditation Committee and they must draft the LSAT. You must successfully complete a two-year law degree at Allard Law to earn an Allard Law degree. Please refer to Step 3 above to find out what supporting documents are required for your application category. Graduates of a civil law program at a Canadian law school can: You can apply to participate in the J.D. program as a second-year student if you are already studying law in Canada, if you are a graduate of a foreign law school, or under a joint study agreement between your school and Allard School of Law. You can apply in this category if you identify as Aboriginal, including First Nations, Métis or Inuit. Your application will automatically be considered in the General category.

A limited number of first-year law positions are available to discretionary candidates. The discretionary category is intended for candidates who may have relevant achievements and experience, but who may not meet one or more of the requirements of general candidates due to special life factors. The admissions committee has the discretion to respond to such circumstances by taking into account factors such as disability or special needs, financial disadvantage, age (generally for applicants over 30 years of age), membership in a historically disadvantaged group, and any other factors desired by the applicant. These factors should be considered in the context of the nominee`s other achievements, work experience, volunteerism and commitment to the community. If you are applying as a transfer student, your current law school must send us a reputable letter from the Dean or his/her official representative indicating your current year of study and that you are a student in good standing. Applicants who have reached the age of three at the time of the application deadline may take advantage of this second option. However, a prerequisite for a commitment is the maintenance of the academic average obtained during the first two years of study. The third year of study must be completed by the end of the spring semester of the year of admission.

(The spring semester runs from January to April.) You must submit all supporting documents (via the faculty`s Stage 2 graduate and postdoctoral system) before your application is reviewed and considered. Below is a detailed explanation of the different documents. As this is a 9-month post-graduation internship, you may need a permit to work full-time off-campus in order to meet the requirements of your job designation and therefore, after completing your studies, it is recommended that you apply for a post-graduation work permit. The Law Society of British Columbia provides more information about the requirements you can practice in British Columbia. Please note that each province may have different jurisdictions and policies for law enforcement, and we encourage you to review each province`s governing body. You must submit all your transcripts, one LSAT score, one personal statement, two letters of reference and one letter of assessment from the National Accreditation Committee with your application.
